Quote: Volteer: A purple dragon named Spyro. Amazing. Of course, there were unsubstantiated rumours of a purple dragon countless generations ago, but most considered it heresay, gossip, legend. It's hard to believe, difficult to fathom, amazing to comprehend... er... um...

Sparx: [whispering to Spyro] No wonder they gagged this guy.

Gender: Male
Colour: Yellow
Voice: Corey Burton

A quick witted and intelligent dragon, Volteer is the Master of Electricity and one of the four Dragon Guardians charged with protecting the Dragon Temple and the dragon eggs it contained. His first appearence was in The Legend of Spyro: A New Beginning, having been captured by Cynder before the game begins.

Personality and Abilities

Volteer's vocabulary is nothing short of extraordinary and he doesn't hesitate to use it. He is prone to breaking into fits of rambling, often repeating the same word over and over again, each time with a different way to express it. Unfortunately he doesn't seem to be aware that he breaks into those fits and frequently has to be silenced by one of his fellow guardians, usually Cyril. His electricity element compliments him perfectly, the charged and fast flowing element a parrallel to his fast paced speach and excitability. He is a skilled warrior, able to take out multiple enemies with a charge of electricity and teaches Spyro the art of his element, showing the young dragon just what a dragon of electricity is capable of.

Story

A New Beginning

Volteer was the Guardian that warned Ignitus of the raid on the Temple by The Dark Master's forces and allowed the Fire Guardian the time to hide Spyro's egg before the rest of the eggs were smashed. Year's later the dark dragon Cynder came to power and quickly defeated Volteer, imprisioning him in the harsh tundra of Dante's Peak in order to drain the power of his element into a crystal to be used by Cynder in a ritual to resurrect her master, The Dark Master.

When Spyro found Ignitus, the Fire Guardian, he sent Spyro to rescue Volteer, the young purple dragon unlocking his electricity element in the process. When Spyro found Volteer, however, he was being guarded by the Ice King, one of Cynder's henchmen. After defeating the king he rescued Volteer and ungagged him, the Guardian quickly explaining why he had been gagged by Cynder in the first place by immediately starting into an endless babble.

Volteer continued to talk incessantly even upon his return to the Temple and after telling Ignitus of what Cynder had done to him, he took Spyro to the training room to teach him how to use his Electicity element effectively.

When Spyro returned with Cynder, now free from Malefor's control, Volteer apologised with the rest of the Guardians for being unable to protect their eggs on the night of the raid.

The Eternal Night

Volteer was asleep with the rest of the Guardians when Cynder snuck away from the temple. When the temple was attacked by the Apes once again he helped defend it, this time pushing the Apes away and successfully holding his home, despite the damage the Temple sustained.

He was gathered around the viewing pool when Spyro mentioned The Chronicler and, along with the others, was startled to hear of his existance. With the Guardians unsettled by the reappearence of The Chronicler, who was often linked with tales of doom, and with the visions of the mountain of Malefor that Spyro was having, Volteer was sent with Cyril to the mainlands to learn whatever news they could by Ignitus.

Dawn of the Dragon

In the three years since Spyro's and Cynder's disappearence, Volteer waited with the other guardians in the dragon city of Warfang, having once again lost control of the temple to Malefor and his forces, who tore the Temple from the ground and suspended it high above the ground with his dark powers as a symbol of his domination.

Volteer didn't make an appearence until Spyro and Cynder successfully prevented Malefor's army from storming the city gates and The Golem emerged from the ground and began to attack the city. Ignitus ordered Volteer to distract the Golem's vision and he saves Spyro and Cynder from being overwhelmed by Malefor's forces in an enclosed courtyard. Flying over the area and unleashing electric bolts, he eventually smashed open a door and destroyed the creatures guarding it with a powerful stream of electricity, allowing Spyro and Cynder to progress.

After the Golem's defeat Volteer watches as Malefor reveals his plan and resurrects The Destoyer. Along with the other guardians, he ventures through the city's underground to confront the Destoyer and attack it before it completed the Ring of Annihilation and innitiated the end of the world. When the attack failed, however, Volteer helped move the Inhabitants of Warfang underground in the hopes that they would be safe, not emerging until Spyro and Cynder defeated Malefor and prevented the destruction of the world. He looked over the horizon along with everyone else and witnessed the creation of a dragon constellation in the sky.
