A Blue Thief holding a Dragon Egg
The Thieves are recurring enemies throughout the Spyro series, although they also appear as friendly inhabitants in Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly and Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs. They are mysterious creatures who wear striped robes and are known to steal precious items such as Dragon Eggs, gems, and keys, and then run around at high speeds while chanting their signature taunt of "Nah-nah-nah-nah-nah!". They are the native residents of the Thieves Den and the Thieves' Guild.

Blue Thieves make up the majority of the species, although there are also Thieves who wear green, yellow, purple, or red robes. Red Thieves in particular tend to be exceptionally fast, and often require a Supercharge to catch up to. Green Thieves appear to be in training, and tend to be easier to catch than Blue Thieves.

In Spyro the Dragon

The Thieves make their first appearance in Spyro the Dragon, where they constantly taunt Spyro and try to keep the Dragon Eggs out of his grasp as he makes his way through the Dragon Worlds. They are fast, but Spyro's charging speed is just slightly faster, and they will fall easily after being charged or flamed once.

A Green Thief and a Red Thief who carry treasure appear in Tree Tops, and two Thieves appear in Gnasty Gnorc, carrying the two keys required to reach the boss himself. Thieves of all colors appear in Gnasty's Loot, where they play keep-away with the Gems and ride planes around the area.

In Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage!

The Thieves are conspicuously absent from Ripto's Rage!, although a very similar variety appear in Shady Oasis. These thieves wear yellow robes and orange turbans, and try to keep the three magic lamps away from Spyro, chanting their same taunts. Several of them also wield scimitars and shields, and attempt to attack Spyro directly, although they are far slower than their running comrades.

In Spyro: Year of the Dragon

Spyro chasing a Red Thief in Icy Peak

The classic Thieves return in Year of the Dragon under the employment of the Sorceress. Red, blue, and yellow-robed varieties appear throughout the Forgotten Worlds, and must be chased down in order to retrieve the captured Dragon Eggs that they carry. Moneybags is shown to have taken a liking towards the two Thieves found in the Supercharge Challenge Portal in Molten Crater.

There are also Thieves located in the Super Bonus Round, who carry high amounts of Gems instead of Eggs.

In Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly

The Thieves' first appearance as friendly inhabitants comes in Enter the Dragonfly, where they seek Spyro's assistance in clearing out the Riptocs from their den. In exchange for helping them, the Thieves allow Spyro to take back any of the treasure that they have recently stolen from the Dragons. They still call out their signature taunts even as inhabitants.

The blue-robed varieties reside in the Thieves Den, and are noticeably smaller than the Thieves seen in Spyro the Dragon and Year of the Dragon. There are also red-clothed, jester-like varieties lurking throughout the Dragon Realms, who must be chased and attacked in order to give up the loot that they have stolen.

In Spyro 2: Season of Flame

Thieves in Season of Flame behave much as they in the other games. They have captured some Fireflies and will run away from Spyro when he approaches them. Only the blue-robed varieties appear in the realms here.

In Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs

The Thieves appear once more as friendly inhabitants in Attack of the Rhynocs, where they can be found loitering throughout the various realms. The majority of the Thieves are found in the Thieves' Guild, which serves as a school for young, green-robed Thieves. Although friendly, there are still a few mischievous individuals who Spyro must chase down in order to retrieve their carried items.

The two higher-ranked Thieves in the Thieves' Guild, Greta and Master Thief, both wear purple robes.

In Spyro: A Hero's Tail

As a part of his plan to take over, Red hires a gang of blue-robed Thieves to steal 80 Dragon Eggs. These thieves either dropped the eggs, or kept them and hid throughout the realms.
