Spyro: A Hero's Tail is the fifth console game in the Spyro the Dragon Series. The first game for the XBox, this game received much more positive reviews than Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, but still failed to be considered as good as the original trilogy on the PS1.
After having peace from his last adventure, Spyro must stop Red from poisoning the Dragon Realms with Dark Gems.
The Story
The Professor has noticed that more Dark Gems have been appearing, he calls Spyro to discuss the matter. After showing him what the Dark Gems have done Spyro sets out on a whole new adventure to stop Red before it's too late. But Spyro cannot do this alone... He comes across four allies to help him: Blink the Mole, Hunter the Cheetah, Sgt. Byrd the Penguin and Sparx the Dragonfly. Together they make the ferocious five.
Red needed power to have control, so he sealed three fairies within Gnasty Gnorc's club, Ineptune's Belt and his Staff. Even with elements on their side Spyro easily defeated them and released the fairies but at the last minute Red ran to his laboratory trying to make a robot army to destroy Spyro once and for all. The army was still no match for Spyro's power and he easily got to Red's Lab. Red wanted a re-match against Spyro and knowing that Spyro, being too overconfident, would fail. Unfortunately Red had been turned into a robot and increased size ten fold, thanks to the Professor’s mistake, but in the end Red's efforts failed and he got miniaturized by his own lab computer.
Once again Spyro was able to triumph over the evil.
Trivia
- Many of the characters personalities from older games have changed.
- Moneybags is no longer portrayed as a rich greedy 'gentleman', but as a greedy, eccentric merchant with a foreign accent.
- Gnasty Gnorc is not so much resembles his ingame character model from the first game, but more like the concept art and pre-rendered renditions. His voice and intellect seems to be "Dumbed down".
- Sgt Byrd looks fatter and uses a jet pack instead of his own flippers to fly.
- Bentley shows no sign of the intellect he possessed before, and a completely different, lower voice.
- As well as his usual Buzzing, Sparx can talk.
- All the Dragon Elders in this game (save Red) share names of dragons you rescued in the first game, but each was very unlike their representative in personality and appearance.
- Hunter seems less Dimwitted, And is as Cocky As Spyro
- The professor now has a low, British accent instead of his squeaky, American, "Spongebob" accent.
- Of course, some blame this on the Dark Gems.
- The game makes many references to video games itself, a few examples are when The Professor quotes Mario or when Spyro quotes "close one" when the message box down the bottom nearly runs out of room.
