A Speedway or Flight is a special type of level in the Spyro series.

Speedways are courses that contain four sets of eight different obstacles, which Spyro must either go through or destroy in some fashion within a specific time limit. After defeating this time limit, Spyro is given the option to return and try to set a new course record, which sees the clock counting up. During the Speedway challenges, Spyro is granted unlimited Flying and Supercharge, which he must use in conjunction with his flame breath.

Spyro The Dragon

In Spyro the Dragon, Speedways are known as "Flights". Spyro is given only twenty seconds to overcome every obstacle, though destroying each obstacle will earn him a few extra seconds. Completing each obstacle set earns Spyro 60 Gems, and he earns the remainder by completing all the sets within the time limit.

Ripto's Rage!

Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage! is the first game to refer to the levels as Speedways, setting the precedent for the rest of the series. They are much like the Flights of the first game, though the time allotted to destroy the obstacles is more generous, and there is a Hunter Orb challenge hidden within the realm.

Year of the Dragon

Spyro: Year of the Dragon sees a change in the setup of the Speedways. Here, Sparx hosts the Speedways and gives Spyro a choice between Time Attack or Race. Time Attack follows the same rules as the Ripto's Rage! Speedways. Race has Spyro participating in a three-lap race against that Speedway's denizens around a set course marked by red dots and colored rings. Throughout the course are blue stars, which give Spyro a speed boost, and red stars, which give Spyro a missile to hit the racers ahead of him with. Winning first place in these races will earn Spyro an Egg.

Hunter can also be found hiding in each Speedway, where he will issue an extra challenge. This is the first time where Hunter is a playable character in the series.

Enter the Dragonfly

Speedways appear in Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly within ordinary Challenge Portals as opposed to being their own separate realms. They operate in the same way as Year of the Dragon's Speedways, with Sparx hosting them and giving the options of Time Attack or Race. Unlike Year of the Dragon, however, Hunter is not present in these Speedways.

Season of Ice

Spyro: Season of Ice is the only handheld Spyro game to feature Speedway levels. They are much like the Flights of the original Spyro the Dragon, though the items approach in a preset path that Spyro must move around to align with when he goes through or destroys the object. At the end of each Speedway is a boss that Spyro must defeat before he can obtain that realm's Fairy.

A Hero's Tail

Spyro: A Hero's Tail is the last Spyro game to feature Speedway levels. Unlike prior Speedways, Spyro himself does not participate in the challenge. Instead, the role is turned to Sgt. Byrd.
