Sorceress's Lair is the fourth boss world in Spyro: Year of the Dragon. It is accessible after collecting 100 Dragon Eggs. Agent 9 assists Spyro in this battle.
The Battle
The battle is set in a gloomy arena surrounded by large walls and a ring of striped, slightly raised ledges. Beyond the ledges lies a moat of lava, in the middle of which is a ring of solid ground that Agent 9 runs on. The sky above is lit by what is possibly a midnight sun in the midst of an eclipse. Balloons float in from beyond the arena, carrying stationary cannons, hover tanks similar to the ones in Haunted Tomb, flying saucers, and sheep if Spyro's health falls low. Agent 9 will pop the balloons and release their cargo by shooting them randomly, though it is possible to pop these balloons with shots from the saucer.
The Dragon Egg in the Sorceress's wand normally glows purple, but will change in hue as she swings her wand around in order to indicate the attack that she uses. Her primary attack, launching orbs of electricity, will turn the egg blue. Her secondary attack, launching a homing yellow fireball, will turn the egg yellow. If Spyro fails to stay on the move, the Sorceress will run right up to him and hit him with her wand, which simultaneously will glow green and briefly encircle her in green energy. When Spyro uses a weapon, the Sorceress will run about in an attempt to dodge the hits, and will launch a fireball in retaliation, which will both damage Spyro and destroy the weapon.
As Sorceress's health depletes, the electric orbs she fires into the air will increase in both amount and frequency. She starts off with three, and the numbers increase dramatically and rapidly after that. Additionally, more weapons become usable as she takes more damage. The only weapons available to Spyro at the onset of the battle are cannons with ten shots in them. After she has taken five hits, the hover tank will be available for use, also with ten shots. In the final pinch, the flying saucer will be available, with unlimited ammo.
After the Sorceress is defeated, she will be sent flying backwards into the lava moat, where she will flail around as she slowly sinks in. In her flailing, the Dragon Egg powering her wand will be flung out into the arena, where George will be released. A short cutscene revealing the Sorceress survived the battle will play before the remaining ending cutscenes.
