Story
Year of the Dragon
One thousand years prior to the events of Spyro: Year of the Dragon, the Sorceress lived alongside the Dragons who ruled the worlds. However, she got fed up following an argument with Astor and banished them to the other side of the world, with herself becoming queen of the now-called Forgotten Worlds. Over time, the magic in the worlds started to dry up, and one by one, most of the portals closed, trapping residents in different worlds for years.
One day, the Sorceress took in a young rabbit named Bianca as her apprentice and trained her to use magic. Years later, the Sorceress hired a greedy bear from Avalar named Moneybags to keep an eye on any prisoner she holds. Meanwhile Bianca was given the task of kidnapping dragon eggs from the Dragon Realms while the dragons slept. The mission was successful, but because Bianca accidently stepped onto Hunter the Cheetah's tail, they were caught, with the Dragon Elders sending a fariy to follow them.
The Sorceress ordered Bianca to despose of whoever would try to take back the eggs, but the dragon in charge of the rescue misson is Spyro the Dragon, who saved the Dragon Realms and Avalar from Gnasty Gnorc and Ripto respectively. Bianca fails to scare him off, even after two warnings. The Sorceress is furious with her apprentice for not using magic, and gives her a spellbook, demanding her to whip up a monster to kill Spyro. Bianca turns Buzz the Rhynoc into a giant toad, but he is soon killed by Sheila the Kangaroo.
In Enchanted Towers, the Sorceress forced a Foreman named Jasper to build a statue of her, but after it is finished, she complained it was too ugly. With Spyro's help, Jasper was able to demolish the statue.
Later on, the Sorceress becomes so furious with Bianca, she decided to deal with Spyro herself. She angerly tells Bianca that without the magic in the worlds, she will die, and Bianca will never become a sorceress herself. She then turns a rhynoc named Spike into a giant beast, which horrors the apprentice. Spike soon went off to fight Spyro, but the purple dragon used ammo that Sgt. Byrd dropped for him, and the beast was defeated and killed.
In Evening Lake, the Sorceress set a trap for Spyro in order to capture him; however, Spyro was able to evade this trap and Hunter was captured instead. In the Fireworks Factory, the Sorceress used some rocket files stolen from the Professor to build her own rocket, which also had an egg attached to it. Handel and Greta were sent on a mission to take back the plans and "destwoy the wocket". With Spyro's help, Greta made her way through the ninja rhynoc army, and launched the wocket. It went up into the air and blew up, with the egg falling onto a cannon. Fortunetly, it was unscratched. Greta then returned to Evening Lake to work on with the Professor's rocket.
Later on, the Sorceress happily bragged about her plan to create a monster to end all monsters, and also releaved why she sent Bianca and the rhynocs into the Dragon Realms to kidnap the eggs: she was to use the wings of the baby dragons for a spell that will allow her to live forever. Bianca was horrified on the truth, and, following an argument, abandons the life of an apprentice and goes off to rescue Hunter and find Spyro. The Sorceress decided to take care of her former apprentice after disposing Spyro, and procides to turn a cowardly rhynoc into a flying fiend she calls Scorch.
Following Scorch's death, the Sorceress stays in her lair, awaiting Spyro to come, so she can deal with him. Soon, Spyro arrives at her lair, and, along with Agent 9, battles her. After a long battle, the Sorceress is knocked into the pink lava and her staff is destroyed, freeing an egg (containing George) that was inside it. Unknownst to Spyro and Agent 9, the Sorceress's hand comes out of the lava.
It's later revealed that she suvived her battle, and escaped to Super Bonus Round, where she saved up her powers and waited for Spyro to come, so she can destroy him in her flying saucer. With Bianca's saucer, Spyro was able to destroy her saucer, and the Sorceress fell to her death in the lava below the battlefield. The egg containing the twins Ying and Yang was released, and Spyro's quest was over.
Enter the Dragonfly
One of the floats in the party at the begining of the game was shapped like the Sorceress, which scared Hunter.
Appearance
“You'd think the Sorceress would want more rain after what the sun has done to her skin.”
—[[Nimbus|Nimbus]], Spyro: Year of the Dragon
The Sorceress is an anthropomorphic dino-lizard, with blue skales all over her body. She wears a light-blue collar around her neck, which is the style used in 17th Century Austria. She also wears a crown on her head, which shows that she is queen of the Forgotten Worlds.
It's unknown what her skin looked like in the past, since the sun seems to have damaged it, according to one of the Cloud Cats.
Personality
The Sorceress is said to be cruel and selfish. She would trick the lackeys into doing something that they would otherwise refuse to if they knew the truth, as she did with Bianca and Jasper. The only thing she seems to fear is death, and would do anything to ensure that she would live forever, even to the point of murdering baby dragons for their wings for a spell to allow her to become immortal.
The Sorceress seems to have bad anger issues, as shown when she furiously scolded Bianca for failing to kill Spyro or scare him off. When things start to go her way, she can get pritty happy, and even laugh whenever she hits Spyro with an attack, or when she captured Hunter in a cage.
Trivia
- It's possible that Doctor Nefarious of the Ratchet & Clank series is partly baised on the Sorceress, as they have similar personalities, control over a whole species, and have both even captured an ally of the protagonist.
