Other characters
numerous other characters appear in the game.
Hunter: who first appeared in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, appears in this game, aiding Spyro on his quest to defeat the Sorceress, as well as being playable in a few minigames in the speedway levels. Numerous new characters also appear as playable characters.
- Sheila: Found in Sunrise Springs, She is an Australian kangaroo with an exceptional jumping ability. She can also Kick with her feet.
- Sgt. Byrd: Found in Midday Gardens, he is a penguin and military soldier with a funny, slow waddle. He can Fly as well as shoot homing missiles and launch bombs.
- Bentley: Found in Evening Lake, he is a smart and strong yeti with a gentle demeanor who wields a club made of ice. He can hit things with this club or rebound snowballs.
- Agent 9: Found in Midnight mountain, he is a space monkey who carries a lazer gun and is obessed with killing rynocs. He assists the same Professor from Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, who can only be seen in Agent 9's level and in one of the final cutscenes.
- Moneybags Returns, hired by the sorceress to "keep charge" of certain things in "the forgotten realms". Like in Spyro 2, Spyro must pay Moneybags to get through some levels. As said above, you must also pay Moneybags to release protesters who are blocking their own levels.
- Elora returns, but is only seen in one of the cutscenes after you beat the sorceress.
Just like in Spyro 2, in each realm there are certain characters who are not playable but give you useful information in general and about the level, such as "French Hummingbirds" and "Canadian Snowmoles".
Bosses
- Buzz resembles a giant toad, with a pair of strong legs, however he's not tough enough to withstand lava.
- Spike is a tall, muscle-bound monster who can really pack a punch. He uses a laser-like weapon to shoot at Spyro. He can either shoot lava to the ground or shock Spyro. However, his own ammunition can be useful to destroy him!
- Scorch is a giant winged beast that can produce a forcefield to protect himself. He is defeated by a carefully aimed missile.
- The Sorceress is the final boss. She can conjure up some powerful magic when necessary. There are two times she must be defeated: the first time is reached by collecting one hundred dragon eggs to gain entry into her lair and the second time is a saucer battle for the last dragon egg.
Characters

Other Abilities
Just like in Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, Spyro Can Run Into "Powerup Gates" which give him special abilities for a period of time. The remaining time left to use these abilities can be seen on a bar on the right of the screen. These Abilities include:
- Super flame- Spyro's flame is more powerful and follows through in a straight line like a fireball.
- Super Fly- Spyro can fly for as much as he likes during the time period
- Invinciblility- spyro can withstand fire and can swim in acid.
Returning from the last 2 games is the "super-charge" ability. This Ability activates when you charge while upon a track which has arrows on it. Super-Charge allows you to accerlerate and move faster with your charge. Because of this, it allows you to break heavy crates or catch fast thieves.
