Ripto is a vertically-challenged Riptoc, and one of Spyro's greatest and most persistent enemies. He is the main antagonist of Ripto's Rage!, Enter the Dragonfly, Season of Flame and Attack of the Rhynocs, and shared the role of main antagonist with Dr. Neo Cortex in Crash Purple and Spyro Orange.
Ripto harbors a general disgust for Dragons, though the reason for this is unknown. He originally had no direct conflict with either Spyro or his world until the two of them met during the events of Ripto's Rage!.
Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage
In Spyro 2: Ripto's Rage, Ripto is accidentally brought to Avalar when Hunter typed in the code 2-2-4-7-5 (His birthday) in The Professor's Superportal. Once here, Ripto, along with his minions Crush and Gulp, began to take over Avalar once he realised there were no dragons here. Spyro was then brought to Avalar, and, one by one restored the Realms and Homeworlds of Avalar back to normal, before defeating Ripto and sending him back with the power of the Orbs he collected.
Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly
In Spyro: Enter the Dragonfly, Ripto makes his return (Although how he returns is never fully explained). He immediately uses a spell to scatter the Dragonflies all around the Dragon Realms. Once Spyro met up with him, he once again defeated Ripto and Ripto escaped through a portal.
Spyro: Season of Flame
In Spyro: Season of Flame, Ripto appears once again and this time scatters the Fireflies about, making the Dragons fire breath unusable. Spyro once again rises to the challenge, and defeats Ripto's magical cards, as well as Ripto himself. Ripto then disappears in a puff of smoke.
Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs
In Spyro: Attack of the Rhynocs, The Professor makes an invention which allows people to see into another dimension. Here, Spyro can see Ripto, although neither can get to each other. When The Professor introduces Butler to Spyro, the invention starts malfunctioning, and causes the portal machine to go haywire and release Ripto. He begins to cause havoc once more, and the only way to get him back is to use the 12 'Hearts of the realms to create and seal another portal. This game also introduces his home, Chateau Ripto, where he is banished to by Spyro once more.
Spyro Orange
In Spyro Orange: The Cortex Conspiracy and Crash Bandicoot Purple: Ripto's Rampage
Later in Spyro Orange, Ripto appears to team up with Dr. Neo Cortex to take over the world.
Trivia
- Ripto's name was based on the Japanese logo for the Spyro series, which consists of Spyro's name transcribed into katakana. スパイロ, though not looking much like the word "Ripto", takes on a definite similarity in the font used on the boxart.
- Ripto has made the most amount of returns as villain in the Spyro series.
