This is a list of the Dragons to be rescued in Spyro the Dragon.

A

  • Acher: Found in Beast Makers HomeWorld, on an island nearby Misty Bog.
"Spyro, it's great to see you. But I've got to go."

  • Ajax: Found in High Caves, just past the Spider caves.
"I hate those bugs! When I become big and strong - Like you - I'll squash 'em all!"

  • Alban: Found in Dark Hollow. As you enter the level, leap up the first set of towers, and glide to the left. Climb up the steps to free Alban.
"Oh, it's you. I wasn't sure if you escaped those annoying little creatures. Of course they wouldn't bother me, but here's a hint - Metal armor is fireproof, but a charge attack can take care of them."

  • Altair: Found in Blowhard boss level, inside a small room found just after the first set of moving towers.
"Thanks for releasing me, Spyro. You have no idea I've long been trapped in crystal... And er... Neither do I .....Who are you again?"

  • Alvar: Alvar is a dragon found in Town Square. After rescuing Devlin, continue the path until you find the Whirlwind home. In this area, Alvar may be found, and prompts you to chase the Thief with the Dragon Eggs.
  • Andor: Found in the Ice Cavern. On your way to the exit Whirlwind, there is a small cave. Through this cave waits Andor.
  • Apara: Found in Dark Passage. Glide down in the direction of the water, and on one side will be an alcove. Go through this passage, and glide over to the 3 Dogs. Go through these passageways, and you'll find Apara waiting.
  • Apari: Found in Gnorc Cove in Gnasty's World, on a platform accessible early on by jumping on the houses.
  • Argus: Found in the Artisans world, just outside Toasty. He guards the entrance to the first boss level in the game. There are two different dialogues for this dragon. One is used if Spyro has not completed enough of the game; the other is used if he is ready.
  • Asher: Found in Ice Cavern.
  • Astor: He is found near the "Return Home" Whirlwind in Stone Hill. He is an older dragon.
  • Azizi: Found in Dark Passage, after rescuing Kasiya, continue straight on to find Azizi.

B

  • Bakari: Found in Dark Passage, just outside the exit Whirlwind.
  • Baruti: Found in Lofty Castle. After rescuing Mudada, you can glide to another platform nearby. On the next platform to this is Baruti.
  • Biffo: Found in Gnorc Cove.
"Wow, I never thought I'd be rescued, especially by such a little dragon. Eh, wha- what I mean is, I always believed in you, Spyro!"

  • Boldar: Found in Magic Crafters homeworld, just outside Crystal Flight.
  • Boris: Boris is a dragon found in Dry Canyon, on a set of steps. A rare, minor glitch can cause Spyro to get stuck on the floor when speaking to Boris.
  • Bruno: Found in Beast Makers homeworld, just outside Terrace Village. He was believed to be the Chief of the Beast Makers Dragons.
  • Bubba: Found in Misty Bog. After saving Zeke, carry on through the area, defeating (or avoiding) the enemies. At the end will be some stairs to the exit Whirlwind and Bubba, waiting to give his expert advice.

C

  • Carvin: Found in Twilight Harbor.

  • Cedric: Found in High Caves. After rescuing Ajax, walk along the castle ridge and glide into a small cave. Along with the exit Whirlwind lies Cedric and lots of Gems.
  • Claude: Found in Terrace Village, after going through a few houses, Claude is found inside one leading to a row of electric Gnorcs.
  • Cleetus: Found in Twilight Harbour, just past the drawbridge after rescuing Cosmos.

  • Conan: Found in Dry Canyon.
  • Copano: Found in Haunted Towers. Once you find the Supercharge in the castle, charge down the first two doors until you're in a room with many rooms. Take the top right one, but instead of trying to charge up the ramp, turn left and jump onto the other side. Run up the ramp, and jump over to the 'secret' platform, and there will be a Whirlwind. This will take you to Copano.
  • Cosmos: Found in Magic Crafters HomeWorld, just as you begin to enter the world. He can be found by going straight on the path the game has set up for you. Cosmos is the ruler of the Magic Crafters, and a potent sorcerer.
"Welcome to Magic Crafters! I want you to release the dragons, reclaim the treasure, and recover the eggs from those pesky blue thieves."

  • Cyprin: Found in Terrace Village. After rescuing Claude, continue flaming electric Gnorcs, and around the corner will be Cyprin laying about (literally).
"Good job, Spyro! One day you'll be able to tell all the dragons about your amazing adventure."

  • Cypris: Cypris is a big, yellow dragon you free in the Peace Keepers HomeWorld. He is found close to the Balloonist.
"Hey, Spyro. I see Sparx the Dragonfly has being doing a good job protecting you. Make sure you keep him strong by feeding him lots of butterflies."

  • Cyrus: Found in High Caves.

D

  • Damon: Found in Misty Bog. On the first set of armored Gnorcs, jump on the lone island and continue jumping to the other islands. Past the enemies lies Damon.
  • Darius: Found in Dark Hollow. Darius is found nearby the exit Whirlwind.
  • Delbin: He can be found in the Artisans beside the waterfalls and the portal to Sunny Flight. You also encounter him again in the final Homeworld, Gnasty's World. His voice has changed since the last time you saw him, however.
  • Devlin: Found in Town Square. After saving Nils, continue the path given to you by the game, and you will find him across some water.

E

  • Eldrid: Found in Alpine Ridge. After rescuing Zane, continue forward, avoiding crashing into the moving walls. Ahead lies Eldrid.
  • Enzo: Enzo is a dragon found in Cliff Town who tells Spyro to glide to the other side of the river to find out what's over there. He is found on a bridge at the end.

G

  • Gavin: Gavin is a dragon that can be found in Stone Hill. This Dragon is named after Gavin Darklighter, a rebel pilot in the Star Wars Expanded Universe.
  • Gildas: He is found on top of a tower in Stone Hill.
  • Gunnar: Found in the Peace Keepers land in a small alcove with an Egg Thief.

H

  • Halvor: Found in Cliff Town. He is inside the Town on the lowest level.
  • Hexus: Found in Wizard Peak, halfway through the level.

I

  • Isaak: Found in Tree Tops. Continue straight from the start of the level, and after the first glide to the next area, will be Isaak waiting for his rescue.
  • Ivor: Ivor is an older dragon, found in Dry Canyon. After gliding to another alcove, continue the path and it will lead you to a smaller fortress. Ivor is inside.

J

  • Jarvis: Found in Wizard Peak. Continue straight forward in the level from the beginning, and Jarvis will be waiting for you in a large room, beside a Supercharge ramp for Spyro.
  • Jed: Jed is considered the hardest dragon to rescue in Spyro the Dragon. He can be found in Tree Tops, and requires skill using the Supercharge combined with jump constantly. You can find him by chasing the Green Thief seen at the start of the level.

K

  • Kasiya: Found in Dark Passage, after going straight forward in the level from the starting point.
  • Kelvin: Found in Alpine Ridge. Glide over to the three pedestals with the fireworks on them, and hop into the cave next to them.
  • Kosoko: Found in Haunted Towers, continue running straight through the level, and you'll eventually catch up to Kosoko.

L

  • Lateef: Found in Dream Weavers HomeWorld, just outside Dark Passage.
  • Lindar: He is found in a room in Stone Hill.
  • Lucas: Found in Wizard Peak near return home portal. Lucas informs you of how to access Sunny Flight Speedway in the Artisans HomeWorld, for those who haven't already found it.
  • Lutalo: Found in Haunted Towers. After making your way into the castle via the Fairy kiss power of flame to the door, Lutalo can be found at the end in the middle room.
  • Lyle: Found in Tree Tops. In one of the earlier houses, you can jump through the window. After reaching the end, you'll be able to access an island with some pillars. From here, leap onto the next platform via the Supercharge ramp and Lyle awaits.

M

  • Magnus: He is found in Gnasty's World in the middle of Gnorc Gnexus, after you've beaten Gnasty Gnorc.
"Gnasty's ancient history now! So.... What's in there?"

"I believe this is Gnasty's treasure hoard. But the gate will not open until you have found everything in the Dragon Kingdom. Come back when you have reached 100%."

  • Marco: Found in Cliff Town. After following Enzo's advice, glide over to the other side of the river. After passing the vultures, Marco is here.
  • Maximos: Maximos is a dragon found in Dry Canyon. You need to jump up to the small cove near where Boris was. Walk up the rest of his ramp, and glide to the opening. Then, when you get to the end, glide around the side of the cliff. Walk up the winding path to reach him.
  • Mazi: Found in Dream Weavers homeworld, just outside Dark Passage.
  • Mudada: Found in Lofty Castle. After rescuing the first three fairies, they open a whirlwind to send Spyro over to Mudada.

N

  • Nestor: Nestor is the very first dragon that most people will ever free in the original Spyro the Dragon game. He's green and you can find him in The Artisans Home, standing right in front of Spyro as soon as the game starts. Nestor is the only dragon that you cannot skip entirely while talking to.
  • Nevin: Found in the Toasty Boss level. After following the game's main path, Nevin is just in front of Toasty himself.
  • Nils: Found in Town Square. As you begin, leap up the platforms and he is the first Dragon you see.

O

  • Obasi: Found in Dark Passage. From where you rescued Apara, go up the steps and from the top, glide to the platform with the three Dogs. From here, glide to the next platform and at the end awaits Obasi.
  • Oswin: Found in Dark Hollow, in the underground passage.

R

  • Ragnar: Found in the Ice Cavern. After you get to the tower, hop on the tower tips and into the cave. At the end of the cave lies Ragnar.
    • Ragnar makes another appearance in Spyro: Shadow Legacy as an Elder. However, he has completely changed appearance as have the other re-appearing dragons in this game. He is now much older, yellow in color, and prefers to go by the name 'Sensei'. He also no longer seems impressed by Spyro at all, mistaking him for being weak until Spyro proved himself.
  • Revilo: Found in Jacques, just before the boss.
  • Rosco: Found in Misty Bog. After the second wave of Trees, Rosco rests on a platform.

S

  • Sadiki: Found in Metalhead, right outside the boss level underground.

T

  • Titan: Found in the Peace Keepers World. As soon as you enter this level, Titan is straight in front of you. This Dragon is named after the Titans, the precursors to the Greek Gods in Greek Mythology. He is the Commander in Chief of the Peace Keepers.
    • In Spyro: A Hero's Tail and Spyro: Shadow Legacy He is portrayed as a much different dragon. Elder Titan is found in the Cloudy Domain and teaches Spyro wing shield. He used to be friends with Red. Their friendship had been torn apart when Red turned evil. Elder Titan has yellow scales with a white underbelly. He has grown old over the years and can barely hear anymore.
  • Thor: Found in Town Square. This Dragon is named after the Celtic God, Thor.
  • Todoro: Found in Ice Cavern. Continue the path given to you after rescuing Ulric.
  • Tomas: Tomas is a tan dragon in Spyro the Dragon. He is one of the first you free in the Artisans homeworld, and is found in the same area as the portal for Town Square. After being freed from Gnasty Gnorc's grasp, Tomas reassumed his position as Dragon Elder, alongside several others.
  • Trondo: Found in Dr. Shemp's boss level.

U

  • Ulric: Found in Ice Cavern.
  • Unika: Found in Jacques. He can be found by gliding through a certain path, or using Spyros jump/charge to get on a high platform early and gliding over. Or, you can hit the Fool holding it up.
  • Useni: Found in Lofty Castle. Once you've made your way over to the castle, an entrance guarded by enemies leads to a small room. Use the Whirlwind to fly up enough to glide across, flame the Gnorcs and the Fairy cages. The Fairies will open a Whirlwind which will take you up to Useni.
  • Zane: Found in Alpine Ridge. From the start, continue along the path, and at the end will be Zane.
  • Zantor: Found in Magic Crafters homeworld, just outside High Caves. He teaches you about the Supercharge.
  • Zeke: Found in Misty Bog. After rescuing Rosco, jump to the platform where the line of Gnorcs lie. After the end are some tree stumps. Fall through the tree stump, defeat/avoid the enemies here and Zeke is waiting on a bridge.
  • Zikomo: Found in Dream Weavers homeworld, on an island accessible by the magical cannon.
