Grendor's Lair is the main boss arena of Spyro: Season of Ice. It is accessible twice in the game, and though its layout remains the same, its appearance varies between the two battles.
First Battle
Grendor's Lair is encountered the first time that Spyro attempts to travel to the Spring Fairy Home. It is here that Spyro meets Grendor for the first time, on an isolated platform in the middle of a library filled with books, chains, wandering sheep, lava flows, and banners depicting a star.
At the start of the battle, Grendor stands in place and surrounds himself with a ring of eight fireballs, which he launches in Spyro's direction. After they have all dissipated, he will summon more and send them after Spyro in a continuous cycle. Each fireball launched, however, creates an opening in his barrier, and when he is hit with a charge attack, Grendor will flail in pain and leap into the air, intending to stomp down on Spyro. After he has landed, he will conjure up another ring of eight fireballs and repeat the process.
After Grendors is defeated, he vanishes, though Bianca feels suspicious since his wand is missing as well. Lisa is rescued after this first battle, and Spyro can resume his journey to the Spring Fairy Home.
Final Battle
Grendor's Lair can be accessed properly through the Summer Fairy Home once Spyro has rescued all 99 Fairies. Bianca opens a portal to his lair, and Spyro confronts Grendor once again in his library. This time, the arena has been frozen over and is surrounded by icy waters, while the sheep have been replaced with walking snowballs.
Grendor's attack patterns remain the same, with the exception of his fireballs being replaced with icy energy orbs to match the frozen library. He has eight hit points in this battle instead of five, but he takes damage in the same way as the first battle.
After Grendor is defeated again, he accepts his defeat and releases the 100th Fairy, Zoe, of his own accord.
